Living A Feel-Good Life Is Not About Not Doing Things When You Don’t Want To Or Don’t Feel Like It

October 6, 2020

I just want to clear something up about living a feel-good life, because I think the phrase “feel-good” can sometimes mislead people to think that if they don’t want to or don’t feel like doing something, they shouldn’t do it. And that’s not it at all.

It’s about doing more of what feels good to you. It’s about focusing your life (and business) around getting to spend most of your time doing things that feel good.

And it’s about taking the things you know you need to do but either aren’t doing or are claiming don’t make you feel good so you can avoid them, and finding a way to make them feel good. So that you will do them or at least will have less resistance to doing them.

An example—I freaking hate doing my taxes. I’m not a numbers person. I don’t like math. BUT, I also know that taxes are something I need to do every year (or at least I need to prep my tax stuff so my tax lady can do them for me).

So I find a way to make doing my taxes feel good. I eat a yummy snack and put on music or a movie I love in the background, so that it feels better to be doing something I don’t enjoy.

I do the same thing with dishes, cleaning up my house, exercise, and all the business things that are definitely not my favorite thing to do but that I know need to be done. I just find a way to make it feel good.

And that’s why the things in my life and business feel good to me.

NOT because I don’t do things when I don’t want to. NOT because I use feeling good as a reason to avoid doing things I don’t want to do. And NOT because I allow feeling good to be my excuse for opting out of things that are tough, annoying or frustrating.

Simply because I either only do things that do feel good to me OR because I find a way to make the things I know I need to do feel better so that I do them.

That’s the key. Because feeling good really is the point AND the path.

BUT wanting to feel good is NOT an excuse for avoidance or resistance.

Just wanted to clear that up.
